AI Did Not Answer

The phone rang out or went to voicemail.

A call rang out, went to your old voicemail, or the caller says nobody picked up. Almost every time, this is call forwarding rather than the receptionist itself, and it takes about two minutes to confirm.

Start here

Ring your business number from a different phone and let it ring. What you hear tells you where the problem is.

Your own voicemail
Forwarding is off, or your carrier is answering before the forward kicks in. Go to step 1 below.
Rings forever
Forwarding is pointed at the wrong number. Go to step 2.
Your receptionist answers
The line is working. The missed call was probably an older one — check the time in Conversations.

Check it in order

  1. 1

    Confirm forwarding is switched on

Check on the handset or in your carrier account. If you use missed-call forwarding, make sure the ring count is low enough — anything over about 20 seconds and your carrier’s voicemail answers first.

  2. 2

Confirm it points at your CaughtLeads number

Open Settings → Phone Numbers and compare the number shown there with the one your forwarding is set to, digit by digit. A single transposed digit is the most common cause of this whole problem.

  3. 3

Check the call actually reached us

Open Conversations and look for the time the call came in. If it’s listed, the call arrived and was answered — the caller may have hung up during the greeting. If it’s not listed, the call never got to us, which points back to forwarding.

  4. 4

    Make a test call yourself

Ring in and let it answer. A successful test call confirms the whole path end to end: carrier → forwarding → receptionist.

Common causes

  • Forwarding was switched off — sometimes by a handset reset or a SIM swap
  • It's set to forward only when busy, not when unanswered
  • The ring delay is too long, so voicemail wins the race
  • A digit is wrong in the forwarding number

If you changed phone or plan recently

Carriers routinely clear call-forwarding rules when a SIM is swapped, a handset is replaced, or a plan changes. Re-check forwarding after any of those, even if you never touched it yourself.

What happens next

Once forwarding is right, the fix is immediate — the next call is answered. Nothing needs to be re-saved on your account, and no calls need replaying.

Calls that rang out while forwarding was broken never reached us, so they won’t appear in Conversations. Your phone’s own missed-call list is the record of those, and it’s worth ringing them back.
