Missed Calls

What happens when nobody — including the AI — picks up.

On this page

Once forwarding is on, a missed call means something different than it used to. Your receptionist doesn’t go to voicemail and doesn’t get busy, so a genuinely missed call almost always means the call never reached us.

What it means now

The call didn’t arrive — nearly always call forwarding. That’s a configuration problem with a two-minute fix, not a fact of life.

What a missed call means now

Not in your account at all
The call never reached us. Forwarding is off, misconfigured, or your carrier's voicemail answered first.
In your account, a few seconds long
It arrived and was answered — the caller hung up during the greeting. Different problem entirely.
In your account, no lead attached
Answered, but they hung up before giving any contact detail.

The three kinds

Worth separating, because the fixes are completely different.

Never arrived
A forwarding problem. Fix it and it stops happening — see AI Did Not Answer.
Hung up on the greeting
Some callers hang up on any automated voice. A small, normal percentage.
Hung up mid-conversation
Worth listening to. If it happens repeatedly at the same point, something in the call is losing people.

Why the count should now be near zero

Missed calls were the reason you got a receptionist. Checking that the count really has gone to near zero is the single best confirmation that everything is wired up correctly.

Check after any phone change

Carriers routinely clear call-forwarding rules when a SIM is swapped, a handset is replaced, or a plan changes. Missed calls reappearing is usually the first symptom.

How to check for genuinely missed calls

  1. 1

Look at your phone's missed-call list

Your handset is the only record of calls that never reached us — we can’t show you what we never received.

  2. 2

    Cross-check against Conversations

Take a number and a time from your phone and look for it in Conversations. Present means it arrived; absent means it didn’t.

  3. 3

    If absent, test forwarding

Ring your business number from another phone and let it ring. What you hear tells you where the break is.

  4. 4

    Ring back anything genuinely missed

Those callers are still worth having. A call back the same day still converts reasonably well.

Short calls are not missed calls

A handful of very short calls in your history is normal — wrong numbers, silent robocalls, and people who hang up on any recorded voice.

A normal week

41 conversations. 3 under ten seconds: one wrong number, one silent, one who hung up during the greeting. That’s roughly 7%, and it’s fine. If it were 30%, something would be wrong with the audio — see Customer Could Not Hear the AI.

For contacts who may be contacted, yes — Reactivation and Outbound Calls work a list for you, and consent is enforced per person.
